Simplifying our backhaul product portfolio

In March 2023, we proposed a number of changes to our backhaul portfolio. These changes included grandfathering of legacy backhaul products, to be replaced by the new or refreshed products. We are now confirming these changes. This communication constitutes formal notice of these changes.

As of 4 September 2023, we will sell no new instances of the following products:

  • Chorus Regional Transport (CRT);
  • Chorus Relay Connect (CRC) FDS;
  • Commercial Backhaul Variant (may have been labelled as CRT); and
  • ICABS Metro

These changes coincide with the introduction of our new Chorus Exchange Connect (CXC) product, which also launches on 4 September 2023.  We will communicate our plans with respect to Commercial Backhaul in coming weeks.

Please note that ICABS dark, as opposed to the Chorus’ Lit Metro ICABS product, is unaffected by these changes.

Please note we will communicate our plans with respect to Commercial Backhaul in coming weeks.

Chorus Data Centre Connect (CDCC)

Chorus Data Centre Connect transports traffic from a selected data centre to a designated Chorus exchange. From there, the connection can be further extended to another data centre by using Chorus Relay Connect or other backhaul products.

CDCC

Chorus Relay Connect (CRC)

Chorus Relay Connect transports traffic between Points of Interconnection and First Data Switches (for carrying copper traffic only) linking two UFB Candidate Areas. It is a product you can use to build your national transport network connecting all of your Points of Interconnection.

CRC

Chorus Exchange Connect (CXC)

Chorus Exchange Connect is a backhaul product that goes beyond POI to POI. The CXC Service will be available as a bandwidth managed variant or, if bandwidth managed capacity is not available, as a dark fibre extension subject to a feasibility test in exchanges not covered by Chorus’ DWDM network.
