UBR Backhaul

Technical specifications

How it works

Each end-user is located in a coverage area. The end-users’ traffic from numerous Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAMs) in a coverage area is carried to the handover point over local aggregation paths dimensioned to support the throughput rate for Basic UBA.

You can interface to each of the handover points directly, or you can choose to purchase the UBR Backhaul service to deliver traffic aggregated to another coverage area where there is a handover.

Availability

UBR Backhaul service is available in all coverage areas and provides backhaul connectivity to any of your nominated handover points.

Available options

UBR Backhaul is available in a range of bandwidth options.

The baseline throughput for UBR Backhaul and parent coverage area (S step) is 75 kbps per end-user which ensures that at peak congestion each end-user will experience at least 75kbps of throughput over UBR Backhaul.

Additional throughput options of 100kbps or 125kbps, 150kbps, 175kbps and 200kbps, 225kbps, 250kbps, 275kbps, 300kbps, 325kbps, 350kbps, 375kbps and 400kbps per end-user are also available.

Set-up requirements

UBR Backhaul is pre-configured per coverage area via the coverage area mapping process. Each coverage area will be mapped to a nominated handover point.

You must advise Chorus of the coverage areas in which your end-users are located and indicate the desired UBR Backhaul mapping between each parent handover point serving your end-users and each of your handover links.

Parent coverage

Where traffic from multiple coverage areas is handed over to the same handover, and this exchange supports multiple parent coverage areas, you must nominate one of those coverage areas as the parent coverage area for the handover link. The transport of traffic from the other coverage areas to the same handover link will incur the relevant UBR Backhaul step charge (A, B, C or D step).
