Chorus Relay Connect (CRC)

Technical specifications

How it works

Chorus Relay Connect transports traffic between Points of Interconnection (POI) in different UFB Candidate Areas.

CRC

It is provided from exchange to exchange in specified locations. The expected termination point is within the Service Provider’s Central Office Co-location Service footprint in a Chorus POI Central Office. The connection may be extended beyond the POI within the Candidate Area using one of the following.

  • Chorus Data Centre Connect to a data centre within Chorus POI Central Office area where available; or

  • Intra Candidate Area Backhaul Service to another Chorus Central Office where available; or

  • Direct Fibre Access Service to site within Chorus POI Central Office area where available; or

  • Third party backhaul; or

  • Chorus Exchange Connect.

Technical specification

Single Mode Fibre

External fibre must comply with ITU-T specification G.652D, or G.657A.

Internal building fibres may comply with ITU-T G.657A, but cable must meet appropriate fire regulations i.e. be Flame-Retardant, Non Corrosive, Low Smoke, Zero Halogen (FRNC/LSZH).

Connector Type

Connector optical performance complies with the IEC61300-4 (Grade B) for Insertion Loss and IEC61300-6 (Grade 1) for Return Loss.

Multi-Push-On (MPO) connectors are Method B wire map and are defined as Ultra Low Loss (ULL), complying with IEC 61754-7 and TIA-604-5-D for intermateability.

Connector types (“Available Connectors”) and locations will be:

  • LCAPC or a splice at Network OFDF locations
  • LCUPC or MPO 12F at Service Provider footprints

MPO 12F for tie cables originating from the Network OFDF

Optic Path

Laser types and path characteristics expected to be designed to a minimum standard which are contained in the documents for 10G, Compliant with Telcordia GR-253/IEEE 802.3ae/G.959.

10G variant is either 10G LAN PHY – 10GBase-R or 10G WAN PHY – 10GBase-W

The standard optic wave lengths are 1310nm [transmit] and 1490nm [receive].

DWDM 10Gbps Optic Interface

Either 10G LAN PHY – 10GBase-R or 10G WAN PHY – 10GBase-W.

Tech Spec Table

Service offerings include:

  • Single pathway 10Gb or 100Gb
  • Diverse pathway 10Gb or 100Gb
  • Open Term, 12 months term, 24 months, 36 months and 60 month (10G only)

Demarcation

Chorus Relay Connect demarcation point at the originating and terminating Chorus central office is either:

  1. A splice or connector on the Network OFDF; or
  2. The optical interface within the Service Provider’s Footprint.
