Smart Locations update

Taking fibre to Smart Locations, also known as NBAPs (Non-Building Access Points) is an important part of our service offer. From traffic monitoring via CCTV to digital billboards to ATMs, smart city infrastructure as it’s also known, is now an important part of our urban environments.

In March, we informed you that we created public facing content on chorus.co.nz specifically focused on Smart Locations in recognition of the growing demand for connectivity for this sort of infrastructure.

New Smart Locations SFP ONT plan

We want to make it easier for you to connect your customers to Smart Locations by adding a new Smart Locations product plan including a small form-factor pluggable optical network terminal (SFP ONT). This new plan would only be available for Smart Locations.

It would include an SFP ONT and bandwidth speeds of 50Mbps down and 50Mbps up. It will also include Chorus business restore service levels, giving you confidence that, should an outage occur to the Chorus service, it will be restored in the least possible time – like our premium fibre products.

This new plan (SFP 50) will enable your customers to connect their IoT equipment efficiently (e.g. CCTV, monitoring stations and digital signage) located in confined spaces using Chorus’ reliable and congestion free ultra-fast fibre broadband.

The SFP 50 plan on NGA Evolve (Bitstream 2) has been developed for IoT use only*.

Seamless ordering process

We have been working to make the Smart Locations ordering process simpler too:

  • With our first phase of improvements, we plan to make it faster for you to order and deliver NGA Evolve (Bitstream 2) for Smart Locations. We will achieve this by launching a streamlined online process available via the service provider website.
  • In addition, for orders of 20 or more connections we’re looking at improving our delivery process which allows us connect bulk orders much more effectively.

We will be providing you with more information about this in July.

Next steps and contacts

We would like to make sure we’re considering your feedback while we’re working on delivering these improvements.

Get in touch with your Account Team by Wednesday 1 July to share your thoughts on this new initiative.
