Upgrading BUBA to EUBA extended to 18 December 2020

In October 2019, we advised you that we would be withdrawing the old Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol (L2TP network) technology. As a result, we advised you that we needed to migrate BUBA customers to better performing EUBA0, either ADSL or VDSL effective 1 November 2020.

Due to the impact of Covid-19, we have not been able to progress migrations and have now extended withdrawal of Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol (L2TP) until December.

This update is also formal notice that we are withdrawing the L2TP platform from 18 December 2020. Withdrawal means that the BUBA product will no longer be available.

What’s the detail

BUBA is an early version of UBA where the handover uses Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol (L2TP) and therefore requires you to have L2TP Network Server (LNS).

We are withdrawing the old L2TP Technology and as a result service providers need to upgrade customers to Enhanced UBA (EUBA0) which supports ADSL1, ADSL2+ and VDSL.

Next steps

We have a very easy migration process available and it provides an ideal opportunity to discuss better broadband services with your customers.

All ADSL (Basic UBA) on ISAM DSLAM connections will need to be migrated to an alternative solution by 18 December 2020.

To facilitate this change we will be offering a managed migration service to migrate to ADSL2+ (Enhanced UBA).
