Future Fibre Portfolio – RSP feedback and proposed changes
Overview
In July we provided a customer update inviting you to participate in the consultation on our future fibre portfolio. The consultation period closed on 29 July. We are now able to provide a high-level summary of the feedback received.
We are also proposing changes to our portfolio as a result of this feedback and are inviting you to comment on this proposal. This consultation will end COB 19 August.
Summary of received feedback
Service Providers are generally supportive of improving the mass market offering and simplifying the current portfolio.
There was broad support for an entry level plan, with some Service Providers suggesting speeds at 50Mbps and others 100Mbps for the entry level speed. We will continue to develop our thinking on entry level before reaching out for more feedback on this.
You can find more details about the feedback we received here.
Proposed changes to our portfolio
Mass Market Speed Upgrades
Consumer: We are proposing to boost the speeds of our current 100/20 product to 300/100 .
SME: We are proposing two changes in the business segment:
- Business Evolve 100/100 will be boosted to 300/300.
- Small Business Fibre 100/100 will be boosted to 500/500.
These speed increases only apply to Low Traffic Class Bandwidth. High Traffic Class will remain at 2.5/2.5 Mbps.
How we propose to implement changes
Our preferred approach would be to implement the speed upgrades through synchronised network and system scripts. This approach means we can increase the speeds for customers in a more efficient way than if the changes were managed through bulk orders.
The advantage of this approach is that we would not change the Product Offer, meaning that you can continue to order the same offers you do today. The configuration in Chorus’ backend systems will be updated to ensure the Assurance website and API, Techmate, Customer Reporting and Broadband Availability APIs reflect the new speeds .
What would this mean for RSPs?
You will not need to make any changes to your systems to adopt these changes. However, for your customers to realise the full benefits of the speed increases you will need to reconfigure your network profiles; ensuring any rate shaping currently applied is amended to reflect the new speeds.
Next steps
We are now opening a consultation to get your feedback on the proposed changes above. This consultation process will close COB 19 August.
We want to hear what you think about the changes proposed above, particularly with regard to the implementation approach.
