5th Generation GPON ONT introduction
We're introducing a new 5th Gen GPON ONT (model type 500) that will become our new standard ONT for core NGA connections
Overview
We have received an ‘end of sale’ notice from Nokia for the type 400 GPON ONT as its manufacture will soon cease. We have placed a final order which is forecast to meet demand up to November 2025. This new 5th Gen GPON ONT (model Type 500) will become our new standard ONT for core NGA connections.
The type 500 ONT will ensure customers can continue to enjoy the benefits of fibre connectivity well after the type 400 ONT is no longer available.
We can now confirm that the new 5th Gen GPON ONT is the Zyxel PX5301.

Timeline and approach
Consultations on the new ONTs took place near the end of 2024, during which we gathered and discussed your feedback.
RSP ONT Testing will began in May 2025. Thank you to those that tested and gave us feedback.
Technicians will continue using existing van stock of 4th Gen GPON ONTs before transitioning fully to the PX5301.
Soft launch is planned for 28 July 2025 in CSA1 (South Island patch) and CSA9 (Northern Auckland).
Full Launch will be on 25 August 2025 across all areas as techs run down stocks of 4th Gen ONTs.
