5th Generation GPON ONT introduction
We're introducing a new 5th Gen GPON ONT (model type 500) that will become our new standard ONT for core NGA connections
Overview
We have received an ‘end of sale’ notice from Nokia for the type 400 GPON ONT as its manufacture will soon cease. We have placed a final order which is forecast to meet demand up to November 2025. This new 5th Gen GPON ONT (model Type 500) will become our new standard ONT for core NGA connections.
The type 500 ONT will ensure customers can continue to enjoy the benefits of fibre connectivity well after the type 400 ONT is no longer available.
We expect the new 5th Gen GPON ONT to be largely similar in functionality to the current 4th Gen ONT except it will not need the external Wi-Fi antenna as RGW ONT will be fully withdrawn on 31 October 2024. Consultation workshops with service providers to discuss requirements will help shape the form and function of the new ONT.
