How it works

UCLL enables you to access and interconnect with our local copper network. It includes an MPF, a tie cable service and various ancillary services.

About the MPF

To use an MPF, you need to be able to access and interconnect with it by either connecting it directly to your UCLL co-located equipment in the exchange or using the tie cable service to connect to your UCLL equipment located outside the exchange. You are free to provide whatever services you can deliver and support via the MPF, however, you must adhere to the Interference Management Plan to ensure the services of other providers are not adversely affected.

About the tie cable service

The tie cable service connects the Handover Distribution Point (HDP) to a point outside, but adjacent to the exchange via a manhole.

About the pre-qualification service

The pre-qualification service provides you information about the copper network to your customer’s premises, which will give you a better indication of performance capabilities for DSL based services.

Availability

This service is available from our nationwide network of exchanges. Please note that it is not available on copper local loops that terminate at distribution cabinets. To get this service, you will first need to work with us through the ‘pre-requisites’ mentioned in the determinations.

All the appropriate information guides and training will follow.

Service performance

Our UCLL services are defined within the UCLL standard terms determination (November 2007).

The performance of the network is also defined in the Determination. MPF tests are conducted in isolation from your UCLL wiring and equipment as well as your customer’s premises wiring and equipment.

UCLL supports any voice, data or internet application within the physical characteristics of the copper pair and restrictions of the Interference Management Plan. The service performance will also depend on the configuration of your equipment, network and backhaul arrangement.
