We’re extending our Gigatown Dunedin offer
As part of our ongoing commitment to New Zealand’s first Gigatown, we have decided to extend the Gigatown Dunedin offer through to 30 June 2019.
How has the Gigatown offer gone?
In Dunedin alone there are more than 12,000 gigabit connections, with fibre running down some 1,500 streets, passing nearly 53,000 households. About 50 percent of Dunedin homes and businesses have already chosen to connect to fibre.
The average household broadband speed in the city is hitting 309Mbps, nearly four times higher than the national average. In addition, there are now more options for people to consume fast broadband when they are out and about in Dunedin, with 14 gigabit-powered Wi-Fi hotspots across the city.
What’s changing
As we are extending our Gigatown Dunedin offer through to 30 June 2019 and Chorus’ gigabit subsidised pricing will be available until then for you to continue to promote fibre broadband in Dunedin.
The three plans that are currently part of the offer are:
- Gigatown Residential
- Gigatown Business
- Gigatown Education
From 1 July 2019 this trial offer will terminate and these plans will no longer be available to order. Given the Gigatown offer was only a trial of subsidised pricing for gigabit services, the plans will not be grandfathered.
We will be coming to meet with you all to discuss how we manage the migration of these plans to alternative plans by 1 July 2019.
