VDSL coverage extension

Informer 353: 8 April 2016

Improved performance following the VDSL band plan change has meant that we can now extend our VDSL coverage to 80% nationwide.

What's happening?

The successful change to band plan 998 provided increased speeds and improved performance. It was also able to deliver more stability on longer line lengths; as a result we’re now able to extend our VDSL coverage to 80% nationwide (previously it was 66%).

What's the detail?

Extending the coverage will mean that an estimated 175,000 additional premises across New Zealand will become VDSL capable.

From 28 April we will be updating the broadband pre-qualification tool and ADSL footprint report to reflect the expansion of VDSL coverage. This will mean that the attenuation has moved from 10.8dB to 15dB at 160kHz.

We have also commenced work to update other tools to reflect the extension, including coverage maps and shape files. Your Service Delivery Manager will be able to update you on when these will be available.

In the interim, we recommend you use the broadband pre-qual in Wireline to confirm VDSL capability at an address.
