VDSL availability rules update

Informer 351: 6 April 2016

As a result of the audio consultation feedback on 17 March we’re now investigating whether we can make a change to Wireline broadband pre-qual to identify when NGA is already intact.

What's happening?

Thanks to those who could join us for the consultation session on 17 March, it was really helpful to hear your view on whether the industry was open to changing the availability rules when there is intact fibre at a premise.

What's the detail?

On this audio we proposed ways to maximise fibre connections as a priority over copper when there is intact fibre at a premise (e.g. the premise has an existing ONT installed). While we understand that there will be times when a copper line is required, the end goal should be to encourage consumers to take a fibre connection if it’s already connected at an address.

Overall, the group on the call supported this approached and felt that the best way to achieve this result would be to include a flag in the Wireline pre-qual to alert the sales person that there was intact fibre at the address. They could then discuss the options with their customer.

We will now investigate whether we can achieve this outcome and will come back to you with an update once we know more.
