Summary of consultation feedback: Business portfolio simplification

Late last year, we consulted with you on a proposal to further simplify our business product portfolio.

The scope of this initiative included the following business products/plans:

Thank you to all who provided feedback. Feedback from the consultation was largely positive with RSPs in favour of further simplification and a number of RSPs undertaking similar initiatives. One RSP said simplification helps to streamline provisioning and billing activities.

This update provides a summary of the feedback we received from RSPs.

Product specific feedback

CategoryProductFeedback
Bitstream 2Business NGA Evolve
  • Most RSPs were comfortable with the proposed withdrawal date (31 March 2025).
  • However, one RSP preferred a longer notice period of three years to better align with their commercial processes.
Bitstream 3NGA Business 2
  • Most RSPs were comfortable with the proposed withdrawal date (31 March 2026).
  • However, one RSP preferred a longer notice period of three years to better align with their commercial processes.
  • All RSPs were comfortable that the proposed alternative products (Business 4 and Business 200) are valid alternatives.
Bitstream 3aNGA Business 1
Bitstream 3aNGA Business 5
Bitstream 3aNGA P2P Business 2
  • RSPs asked us to confirm whether we were proposing to withdraw the service from ‘existing schools’ as part of this process. Our proposal only relates to NGA P2P Business 2 bandwidth profiles with no current connections, so we do not expect there to be any impact on existing school connections.
  • One RSP also requested that we evaluate remaining NGA P2P Business 2 connections and consider an offer to move these to another GPON product.
Bitstream 3aEducation Hyperfibre
  • All RSPs were comfortable with the proposed withdrawal date (31 March 2025).
HSNSHSNS Lite Fibre
  • Most RSPs were comfortable with the proposed withdrawal date (31 March 2027).
  • One RSP commented that three years would be preferrable, however, we note the proposed 31 March 2027 withdrawal date is slightly more than three years.
  • Feedback from an RSP questioned the withdrawal of HSNS Lite Fibre in locations with no alternative fibre service. Currently fewer than 20% of connections have no alternative point to point fibre service. 95% of connections have an alternative GPON fibre service. If we proceed with withdrawal, we will work with affected RSPs to develop alternatives.
  • One RSP suggested we develop an offer to assist in migrating from HSNS Lite Fibre to Mobile Access.

Non-product specific feedback

In addition to the above product specific feedback, RSPs suggested:

  • Chorus manages the end-to-end migration process – from order entry of the new product, to RQ of the existing connection.
  • A price equivalent alternative product be provided for all retired plans.
  • If a new ONT is required because of the migration, these are ‘pre-built’ to remove scheduling challenges.
  • To manage migrations as part of an infrastructure upgrade, meaning RSP’s can fit into the BAU planned outages.
  • Chorus developing supporting offer(s) or incentives to move from products being withdrawn to the proposed alternative products.

Next steps

This update provides a summary of the feedback we received on our proposal. We are taking this feedback into account and preparing next steps. Each point will be carefully considered in making a final decision and supporting any migrations off impacted products to a new business product. Confirmation and any required notices will follow.
