Rural Broadband Copper Service Upgrades
We are pleased to announce that Chorus has been awarded funding under the Government’s Rural Connectivity Upgrade programme to upgrade the broadband service to more than 1,500 homes and businesses served by 32 rural cabinets to VDSL, high speed copper broadband. These upgrades are under way and will be completed by mid-2023.
Timing is subject to resource availability and some sites require local authority and/or Iwi approval. As each cabinet upgrade is complete Chorus coverage maps and order portals will be updated to show increased VDSL coverage.
All connections of the cabinets will receive some improvement in access speed and stability, with the change from ADSL to VDSL. The connection between the cabinet and the Chorus and RSP network will also be improved.
Actual individual improvement will depend on distance from cabinet and may require a change in the customer’s modem.
