Re-platforming eDMR services

In April 2023 we provided notice that the Regional Ethernet Network (REN) is being decommissioned on 31 August 2024.  

The eDMR Backhaul and NGA Business eDMR products utilise Ethernet Digital Microwave Radio (eDMR) technology to connect remote locations where it is unfeasible to lay fibre. Both products have been built to use REN network nodes and will have to be re-platformed to FAN in preparation for the 31 August 2024 deadline. 

 

eDMR Backhaul 

  • All eDMR Backhaul services will be re-platformed off REN nodes on to FAN. This activity does not require any action from you, however there will be a short outage while the services are physically switched over to the new equipment. Our usual planned outage notification and process will apply for this planned work.  
  • A small number of eDMR Backhaul services utilise handovers that are not FAN Points of Interconnect, in which case they are also affected by the changes outlined in our Notice of withdrawal for REN Handover Points at exchanges that are not FAN Points of Interconnect and subsequent Update to the notice of REN handover withdrawal at sites that are not FAN handover sites.
  • We will be updating the eDMR Backhaul Service Description to remove references to REN handovers and First Data Switches and replace them with FAN Points of Interconnect. 
  • There are no changes to the recurring price of eDMR Backhaul services resulting from this re-platforming. 

 

NGA Business eDMR 

Please note that NGA Business eDMR has already been grandfathered so it is not available for new orders. 

  • All NGA Business eDMR services will be re-platformed off REN nodes on to FAN. This activity does not require any action from you, however there will be a short outage while the services are physically switched over to the new equipment. Our usual planned outage notification and process will apply for this planned work. 
  • NGA Business eDMR services are already handed over on FAN so not further changes are required. 
  • For the removal of any doubt, the above only applies to NGA Business eDMR. Other NGA Business plans are unaffected. 
  • There are no changes to the recurring price or performance of NGA Business eDMR services resulting from this re-platforming.
