NGA Tail Extension's launching

It’s here. Our new NGA Tail Extension service is available from 24 February 2017. It’s the most cost effective way to extend your NGA coverage - without buying additional backhaul.

What's happening?

Our NGA Tail Extension service connects multiple NGA coverage areas to a single UFB handover connection. This allows you to offer NGA services nationwide, with as little as five UFB handover connections.

What's the detail?

We’re releasing this service as originally proposed. It’ll be available to order connections on, for existing and new UFB handover connections, from 24 February 2017. All handover connections at Regional POIs will be configured to automatically support Tail Extension, apart from Whangarei to Auckland.

Auckland handover connections will be configured to automatically support Whangarei to Auckland tail extension in early March. If you require it before then, please advise your SDM of the specific handovers. They’ll then be manually configured.

Currently, you must have a UFB handover connection at 27 points of interconnection to provide service nationally. With NGA Tail Extension you can do it with five. NGA Tail Extension divides New Zealand into five regions, where each region acts as a ‘super’ coverage area:

Regional points of interconnection will be expanded over time.

The flexibility of NGA means you can select the handover per service. This allows you to handover each service locally or regionally - on a per service basis. You can even choose differently, for voice and data. For NGA pricing, click our current NGA rate card.
