Next Generation Access Tail Extension timing and pricing.

Informer 358: 21 April 2016

From mid July 2016 you will be able to use the Next Generation Access (NGA) Tail Extension to easily and cost effectively extend your NGA coverage.

What's happening?

To enable you to serve more customers in the point of interconnection areas, without having to buy additional backhaul, from mid July 2016 you will be able to use NGA Tail Extension service to serve multiple NGA coverage areas from a single UFB handover connection; providing national NGA services with as little as five UFB handover connections.

What's the detail?

In December 2015, we announced our intention to offer NGA Tail Extension to make it easier and more cost-effective for you to offer NGA fibre services in smaller NGA coverage areas. As a result of your feedback, we’re now releasing the service as originally proposed.

Currently, you must have a UFB handover connection at 27 points of interconnection to provide service nationally. With NGA Tail Extension you can do it with only five by dividing New Zealand into five regions, where each region acts as a ‘super’ coverage area:

 Region Regional POIs Local POIs

1 Auckland

High Traffic Class CIR (per1 Mbps)$ 0.00$ 2.00

Low Traffic Class EIR 10-200 Mbps $ 0.00$ 2.59

Low Traffic Class EIR 200-1000 Mbps $ 0.00$ 3.89

Voice$ 0.00$ 2.00

Where:

  • S is where the NGA Tail is delivered to the local point of interconnection (no Tail Extension)
  • A is where the NGA Tail is delivered to the Regional point of interconnection
  • Price is based on the maximum of upstream and downstream bandwidth, per traffic class
  • Each voice or bitstream service within an offer can have Tail Extension Service configured separately
  • For NGA Evolve primary offers the first 2.5/2.5 Mbps high traffic class bandwidth is included in the low traffic class pricing, with additional high traffic class as per the rate table above.
