New Mt Eden NGA Point of Interconnection

nformer 371: 16 June 2016

From 18 July 2016 you’ll be able to deliver NGA Evolve and NGA Business UFB services situated in Auckland to UFB Handover Connections in the Mt Eden Exchange.

What's happening?

You’ve asked us for additional Points of Interconnection (POI) in UFB coverage areas due to limited space/power in the current sites and to mitigate risk. So from 18 July 2016 we’re adding Mt Eden as an alternative POI site to either Mayoral Drive or Glenfield.

From 30 June 2016 you will be able to pre-order UFB Handover Connections in Mt Eden for connection after 18 July 2016.

What's the detail?

The Auckland UFB POI coverage area, which includes the Auckland North, Auckland South, Pukekohe, Waiuku and Waiheke Island UFB candidate areas, currently has two POI: Mayoral Drive and Glenfield.

From 18 July 2016 you will be able to map any new or existing Auckland NGA Evolve or NGA Business connections to a Mt Eden UFB Handover location at the same cost and service levels as one in Mayoral Drive or Glenfield. You will also be able to map NGA Evolve or NGA Business connections outside of Auckland to a Mt Eden UFB Handover location using NGA TES at the same cost and service levels as one in Mayoral Drive or Glenfield.

Mt Eden is the first POI that we will discuss with the industry at the Product Forum. The additional POIs we’re also proposing are:

UFB coverage areas Additional POIs
Auckland Mt Eden
  Forrest Hill
  Massey
  Ponsonby
Hamilton Claudelands
  Frankton
Wellington Courtney Place
Christchurch Avonhead
  Linwood
  North East Valley

These proposed sites have been selected based on population density and aligned with our Layer 2 architecture. We’ll be looking to include additional sites over time, so if you have any preferred handover sites please let us know.

Each POI will support the following services:

  • NGA Evolve, including NGA Voice and Multicast
  • NGA Business
  • NGA Tail Extension (under development)
  • NGA Business Premium (under development).

Within the next year we intend to turn these additional POIs into network and connectivity hubs, so in the future they will also support HSNS, UBA, Baseband IP and CRT.
