Household data usage continues to grow
A snapshot of data usage expectations for NZ households is now available. Information is based on our monthly consumer survey conducted by Colmar Brunton.
Around a third of households expect their data usage to increase in the next year. An increase in streaming services, new/more connected devices, and more household users (increased size, working for home, older children) are the main reasons behind the expected increase in data usage.
There is relatively high level of interest in 4K streaming content - 38% of households would like to see more streaming content available in 4K quality, this over-indexes for under 30’s, fibre and Netflix users
Monthly average data usage continues to grow and has now hit 500 gigabytes for fibre users. Clearly average data usage per household will continue to increase, especially as higher quality video content becomes available. It is increasingly important to ensure that households are on the best connection available to handle this ever-increasing demand on connectivity.
