Fibre Customer Order Management (FCOM) data retention changes
We are making some changes in the Fibre Customer Ordering Portal (Chorus Portal). These changes are being made to improve how we manage Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and enhance Chorus’ compliance with the New Zealand Privacy Act.
- From 4 May 2025 Customer Personal Identifiable Information (PII) will only be retained for a period of two years.
- Customer data will be pseudonymised from Chorus Portal fibre orders. The pseudonymisation will be made on orders that were completed more than two years ago.
Customer PII is any information that says something about a specific person. The changes will also be applied in EMMA (our testing environment).
Examples of PII:
- Phone number
- Email address
- Order contacts
Pseudonymisation is the process of removing personal identifiers from data and replacing those identifiers with placeholder values (in this case “Customer PII Removed”).
When are we making these changes?
The changes will be made in EMMA on 8 April 2025 and Fibre Customer Ordering Portal on 4 May 2025.
What you need to know
For fibre orders that have been in a completed state for more than 2 years, PII information will be pseudonymised and replaced with ‘Customer PII Removed’. The approach will apply to orders placed via the Chorus Portal GUI, B2B or new fibre order APIs.
