Copper withdrawal programme update

Our programme of activity to withdraw copper in our fibre areas has been running well, with good progress on our network withdrawal activity.

Below is a view of our stats so far:

  • 324 Cabinets have been fully withdrawn
  • 21,771 addresses with copper services notified
  • 6,921 addresses with an intact ONT have been connected
  • 12 Batches launched, 6 complete

Trial in non-Chorus fibre areas

In March, we implemented our copper ‘stop sell’ in areas where fibre is available (as per the Commerce Commission’s Specified Fibre Areas assessment). This supports the withdrawal of copper and includes non-Chorus fibre areas.

We are therefore trialling copper withdrawal in non-Chorus fibre areas. We are launching a small-scale copper withdrawal trial in a non-Chorus fibre area, to test our process and engagement in these areas. We will be notifying RSPs with impacted services today. If you don’t receive a notice of impacted services, then you have no impacted services.

This trial includes 28 cabinets with approx. 100 services impacted.

Batch volumes plan – high level

Our high-level plan for copper withdrawal is to continue batches at the same two-monthly cadence, with similar volumes to current.

With the Copper ‘stop sell’ in place, we won’t be issuing specific ‘stop sell’ notices for each batch. Instead, when we launch a new batch, the copper withdrawal web page will have the impacted list added.
