Consultation outcomes - Mobile Access Service (MAS) handover diversity

We recently ran a consultation seeking feedback from you on whether a handover diversity feature would make the product more attractive to buy, and how you would want to manage failover.

Feedback from the consultation was positive.

Those of you who responded told us that:

  • A handover diversity feature would make MAS more attractive to purchase;
  • At its current price point you would prefer to see Handover diversity be added as a feature of the existing product to give it greater benefits over its competing options;
  • You would expect us to manage the fail over of traffic if an event occurred on Chorus’ network or if the primary handover went down;
  • You prefer active/standby arrangement for handovers as the preference would be to not have the TES charges applied when the secondary is not in use;
  • Mapping of Mobile Access services at an exchange depends on a location – for smaller areas you would map to the same handover, for larger areas such as Auckland they may be spread across multiple handovers;
  • When normal operation is restored after an event, you would prefer services operating over the “default” handover.

Next steps

To address most of your feedback points we are exploring an option to expand our geo-diversity to a larger number of POIs. We will notify you regarding further developments in this area.
