We would like to invite your feedback on a proposed Data Centre Access product that meets the performance and price of HPA, but that is designed in a way that makes it suitable for a data centre environment.

Designing a cost-effective access product for the modern data centre

Our existing HPA product is based on XGS-PON technology, which requires optical splitters and ONTs to work. These are an awkward fit inside of modern data centre environments, so the new Data Centre Access product we are proposing would be based on point-to-point technology. This would make it possible to deliver it as glass-only, like Business Premium or Mobile Access, eliminating the need for splitters and ONTs.

To ensure efficient use of fibre and be able to provide the desired price points, we are proposing that Data Centre Access is provided through a Chorus access node that is located inside of the data centre itself. This means that the new Data Centre Access product will only be available inside of data centres where Chorus has installed an access node, as well as most Chorus exchanges and inside of Chorus EdgeCentre environments.

Data Centre Access product characteristics

We are proposing that Data Centre Access will come in four bandwidth options:

1 Gbps, 2Gbps, 4Gbps, 10Gbps

Data Centre Access will retain the key benefits of HPA, such as single class of traffic (High Traffic Class), unlimited MAC addresses, VLAN transparency, 9100 Bytes MTU and L2CP support.

Below is a simplified diagram that illustrates how the proposed Data Centre Access product may be delivered:
