Sub-loop UCLL (SLU)

Technical specifications

How it works

Sub-loop UCLL enables you to access your customers via our local copper sub-loop network. It includes an MPF, a tie cable service and various ancillary services.

MPF

To use an MPF, you need to be able to access and interconnect with it by either connecting it directly to your sub-loop UCLL co-located equipment in the cabinet or using the tie cable service to connect to your sub-loop UCLL equipment located outside the cabinet. You are free to provide whatever services you can deliver and support via the MPF, however, you must adhere to the Interference Management Plan to ensure the services of other providers are not adversely affected.

Tie cable service

The tie cable service connects the Handover Distribution Point (HDP) to a point outside, but adjacent to, the cabinet.

Pre-qualification service

The pre-qualification service provides information about the copper network to your customer’s premises, which will give you a better indication of performance capabilities for DSL based services.

Service performance

We work to ensure that the copper network performs at optimum levels. Our team of about 2,000 highly skilled technicians work nationwide to build, maintain and repair our network.

Our sub-loop UCLL services are defined within the Sub-loop UCLL Standard Terms Determination (June 2009). The performance of the network is also defined in the Determination.

MPF tests are conducted in isolation from your Sub-loop UCLL equipment as well as your customer’s premises wiring and equipment.

Sub-loop UCLL supports any voice, data or internet application within the physical characteristics of the copper pair and restrictions of the Interference Management Plan. The service performance will also depend on the configuration of your equipment, network and backhaul arrangements.

Availability

This service is available from our nationwide network of distribution cabinets. This does not include connectivity to customers who are served via passive cabinets or the local exchange.

To get this service, you will first need to work with us through the ‘pre-requisites’ mentioned in the Determinations. All the appropriate information guides and training will follow.
