Copper
Transitioning customers to fibre
Quick find
Overview
Chorus is no longer selling copper-based services in areas where fibre infrastructure is already in place, and the plan is to fully retire the copper network in these areas by December 2026.
For rural regions where fibre is yet to reach, copper-based services remain available for now and continue to be a great option for properties located near to a Chorus cabinet or exchange with access to VDSL. However, longer term i.e. likely by the end of the decade, the intention is to phase out the copper network in these areas too.
Due to the Copper Stop Sell in SFA and our announced intention to exit all copper in the next 10 years there will be no new copper builds.
