VDSL consultation summary

Informer 368: 7 June 2016

We appreciate the time you took to feedback on the VDSL consultation. Here’s a summary of the outcome and next steps.

What's happening?

In May we proposed a number of changes to Basic VDSL and asked for your feedback:

  1. To provide cost certainty upfront, we proposed a fixed charge for UBA wiring
  2. To provide simplicity, we asked for your feedback on deletion of the Availability Rules from the Basic VDSL Fact Sheet
  3. With recent product improvements and connection trends, we proposed that amortisation for Basic VDSL connection and wiring installations was withdrawn.

What's the detail?

We received support from every respondant on the first two items.

There was a mixed reaction regarding amoritisation so we’re now going to complete a wider business review before we confirm the final outcome.

Next steps

  1. We’ll present a proposal for a fixed price for UBA wiring to the industry for formal consultation via the Telecommunications Forum
  2. Before the end of June we’ll give you three months notice of the changes to delete Availability Rules from the Basic VDSL Fact Sheet
  3. We’ll come back to you once we’ve done further analysis on the amoritisation change.
