Our plans for promoting better broadband

Here's an outline of our plans for promoting better broadband and keeping end customers up to date with fibre lead times and network outages.

What's happening?

Last month we increased our efforts to educate end customers on the better broadband options. We're also raising awareness of the trends we're seeing on our network in data consumption, with campaigns based on ‘100GB’ and VDSL options. This is part of a broader plan of advertising campaigns, communication initiatives and website tools we'll be rolling out in the coming months.

We’re aiming to give you as much notice as possible on our campaigns, as we balance our goal of moving New Zealanders to better broadband, while ensuring we have enough technician capacity in each region.

Please note: our campaigns are carefully targeted by region based on where we have the ability to meet additional demand.

What's the detail?

Campaigns in market:

100GB and VDSL campaigns
Our 100GB campaign finishes on Sunday 21 August. PR activity continues with local media. The Christchurch VDSL campaign closes on 20 August, while promotions continue in Whangarei and Whanganui until 28 August.

SME business plans
We're running a video campaign promoting fibre for small businesses between 25 July and 21 August.

Campaigns in the pipeline:

Localised fibre campaign
On Monday we're launching a regional campaign that positions fibre as the premium broadband experience. The first phase will run for six weeks. We’re starting in Wellington due to its relatively low fibre uptake and availabilityof technicians. The campaign uses a mix of digital and outdoor media. If successful we’ll consider how we roll it out to other locations.

‘Better Broadband’ campaign
Evolving the ‘100GB’ campaign to focus on the 100k+ New Zealand homes who’ve already chosen better broadband in the last year. It poses the question, “Could you get better broadband?” and directs them to our broadband checker tool. Our aim is to continue to position 100Mbps as the default choice for fibre. Where customers can’t get Chorus fibre, VDSL is the default. This campaign launches at the start of spring.

Auckland Home Show and Armageddon
We’ll be at the Auckland Home Show from 7-11 September to help Kiwis understand which broadbandtechnology is right and available for their household and what needs to be considered for the ultimate home set up. We’ll also be at Armageddon in October doing the same.

Public website updates:

We’re updating our web tools to ensure we provide much more information to end customers about what they can expect. Below is a summary of what we have underway and we’ll let you know more detail as we get closer to launch.

Communicating outages
Our public website will shortly show copper and fibre network outages around the country. For every major fault we plan on letting you know when, where and how it’s being resolved. We’ll start with basic functionality and then grow what it can do. Testing starts in September.

Adding lead times to Broadband Checker
Our Broadband Checker tool is getting a revamp. Installation lead times and the type of install are being added to individual search results. This will better manages customers’ install expectations at the initial query as they know whether fibre is already installed, if there are consent processes to go through and when they expect to get an installation appointment for their address. We’ll begin testing this in late September.
