In late December we announced that we would soon be launching a new 1G education plan to all RSPs for schools around the country called Education Max. We can now confirm that Education Max will be available to order on 12 March.

We are excited to be partnering with our customers that service schools to support network changes and enable bandwidth growth.

What’s changing

Chorus is providing a specially designed fibre service that delivers the best available internet to Ministry of Education (MoE) registered schools on the Chorus network. The Ministry of Education list can be found at http://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/directories/list-of-nz-schools

Supporting details

The new plan called Education Max has a flat rate of $120 per month and coverage will include all MoE registered UFB and RBI schools currently serviced by GPON.

Education Max is now available to all RSPs and will enable all MoE registered schools on the Chorus network to increase bandwidth up to 1G. RSPs may need to upgrade CPE to allow schools access to the new bandwidth.

The process to order Education Max is dependent upon your existing MoE registered school connectivity with Chorus:

• BAU change plan request in Chorus Portal for schools with existing Chorus GPON connections
• BAU New Connection in Chorus Portal for schools with existing non-Chorus connections
• Transfer or connect additional ONT in Chorus Portal for schools with existing Chorus GPON connections

The new Education Max service is a Bitstream 3a service 1000/1000, with 2.5/2.5 CIR. An updated Bitstream 3a service description and price list will be published once we have CIP approval.
