Feedback

Bitstream 4 service trial extended to UFB coverage

Based on your feedback, we’ve extended our current Bitstream 4 service trial from Auckland to all Chorus UFB coverage areas, running over our NGA (UFB) fibre network.

The trial provides you with an opportunity to test the Bitstream 4 service and its various benefits and via feedback, you will be able to influence the OSS/BSS final development.

We will launch our Commercial trial in August 2018 which will allow you to offer this service to your customers, and will provide more details closer to this time.

What’s changing?

Our Bitstream 4 service is a premium business service. While there’s no current plan to change or withdraw HSNS Premium, we hope the features and benefits of the new Bitstream 4 service will make it your preferred choice.

Supporting details

Chorus invited you to join our UFB trial to test out the technical aspects of Bitstream 4. We received many requests from our customers to expand the trial nationally to support participation in other regions outside of Auckland.

In response, we have expanded the trial to include all Chorus UFB coverage areas (with some caveats around capacity). The expansion will support up to 50 connections nationally (where we have UFB coverage), with up to four connections made available to you.

Your involvement will provide you the opportunity to evaluate the features and attributes of this service while allowing us to finalise our fulfil and assure processes.

The Bitstream 4 service is an equivalent product to HSNS Premium. However, it also has additional benefits:

  • Uses our next generation layer 2 fibre network and a more comprehensive roadmap of new features and speeds
  • Supports High / Low traffic classes and premium applications
  • Shares UFB handovers with our other services in the Bitstream family
  • Features that allow a greater level of self-management
  • Supports resilient (LAG) handovers

Please note the trial connections are not intended to be used for commercial operations and there'll be some limitations (e.g. ordering and faults will need to be processed manually).
