Tell us what you think - 100Gbps UFB handover link single port

In order to support continuous bandwidth growth, we’re proposing to introduce a non-diverse/single port 100Gbps UFB handover to the handover link product family later this year. This is in parallel to the formalisation of the 100Gbps handover link products that we have been trialling with you. We want your feedback on these new products.

What’s happening

Chorus currently offers a 100Gbps UFB handover link as a trial product in two product variants:

  • 1+1 active and standby ports support 31,900 services, priced at $5,146 per month
  • 2+2 active and standby ports support 63,800 services, priced at $10,292 per month

To achieve port diversity and reduce the impact of handover failure we recommend 100Gbps be consumed as an active and standby bundle. However, you’ve told us that you would prefer a single port option since it makes more economic sense for you.  As a result, we would like to propose a new range of UFB handover products with more options and updated prices. We hope to launch these product variants to the market later this calendar year.

Below are four product offerings we are proposing to introduce to the market. Please let us know what you think and your preference for which product we launch first. The prices listed below are indictive only and are subject to approval by Chorus and CIP before the new products are launched.

  • 100Gbps Handover Link Single port, priced at $1,800 per month
  • 100Gbps Handover Link Card Diversity, priced at $4,250 per month
  • 10Gbps Handover Link Geographic Diversity, priced at $850 per month
  • 100Gbps Handover Link Geographic Diversity, priced at $4,250 per month
EXISTING PRODUCT 10G 100G NEW PRODUCT 10G 100G
Single $300 Nil Single $300 $1,800
1+1 Bundle (same switch) Nil $5,146 1+1 Bundle (same switch)  Nil  $4,250
2+2 Bundle (same switch) Nil $10,292 1+1 Geo-Diversity $850 $4,250

Although our fault analysis shows that the resilience risk of having a single port for 10G handovers is minimal, please be mindful that a significant number of services would be impacted by a fault to 100Gbps handovers with a single port.

The 100Gbps UFB Handover Link is a commercial product, but the service level is supported by the standard UFB Services Agreement.
