Passive Optical Network Fibre Access Service (PONFAS) change
We recently sought feedback on some proposed minor changes to the PONFAS to enable service providers to manage splitter selection to avoid congestion on their networks. This change would enable a service provider to select a preferred, rather than default, splitter and to change ports or splitters for a working connection.
Thank you for your feedback. Taking into account your responses, we are going ahead with this change as proposed.
Due to the nature of this change, we can implement this very quickly.
Timing
- Launch on 6 May 2024.
- Portal EMMA testing: We can onboard you for this change when you are ready, any time from now.
- This new field (Target Feeder Product Instance ID) will be present in all PONFAS orders. It is not a mandatory field.
Connect orders
You will be able to allocate Feeder Fibre on New Connect orders.
You will see the new Target Feeder Product Instance ID field. Our operational teams will consume this ID and arrange for our field technicians to Connect the Distribution Fibre to the specified Feeder.
The Feeder Fibre Product Instance ID will need to be the same as what was provided in the Feeder Fibre order. If it is incorrect the order will be rejected.
Modify orders
To move distribution to a different feeder Fibre
You will be able to submit a Modify order, with the aim to 'PONFAS Modify Distribution Fibre CSE'.
Under the Offer Characteristics tab, you will see the current Path details of the existing Distribution Fibre service and the same free-text field which you can use to input a 'Target Feeder Product Instance ID' that you want the Distribution Fibre to be moved to.
The new Feeder Fibre needs to be installed in the SAME FFP as the current Feeder Fibre for the customer to be moved by our field team. If it is not, then the order will be rejected.
All in-flight PONFAS distribution orders will also be updated to show the new 'Target Feeder Product Instance ID' field.
Final versions of the PONFAS service description and operations manual will be posted on the Service Provider website closer to the launch date. These are unchanged from drafts circulated earlier.
