Increased coverage and revised pricing for Chorus' Inter-Candidate Area Transport Service

Informer 266: 13 July 2015

We're pleased to announce an increase to the geographic footprint of the ICAT service and new pricing across all point-to-point routes. The service has also been renamed to Chorus Regional Transport (CRT).

What's happening?

In November 2013, we launched our Inter-Candidate Area Transport (ICAT) service, an optical transport network connecting New Zealand's major urban centres with 1Gbps and 10Gbps bandwidth options. The trial of the point-to-point service had a limited geographic footprint and your feedback showed our pricing was not competitive in the marketplace.

As a result, we're pleased to announce an increase to the geographic footprint of the ICAT service and new pricing across all point-to-point routes.

What's the detail?

The new pricing for the ICAT service takes effect from 13 July 2015 and more details can be found online at www.customer.chorus.co.nz/chorus-regional-transport.

Over the next six months we are expanding the geographic coverage of the service with an aim of having a national UFB backhaul service available across most of New Zealand. In particular we are looking to increase our coverage within South Island and augment the capacity we currently have available between the North and South Islands.

Note that the changes outlined above to our ICAT service do not impact current ordering processes or require any changes to existing contracts.

Finally, we feel changing the name of the service from ICAT to Chorus Regional Transport (CRT) better reflects its place within Chorus' product portfolio. There is no change to our Intra Candidate Area Backhaul (ICAB) service.
