Changes to ordering NGA services at properties with Hyperfibre ONTs

15/3/2023: This update is no longer relevant. Standard NGA services can now be ordered at properties with Hyperfibre ONTs. We will only need to replace the Hyperfibre ONT if voice is required from an ATA port.

 

 

Background

Hyperfibre connections to our network continue to grow, which means more properties have Hyperfibre ONTs. Sometimes customers at properties with intact Hyperfibre ONTs want to order NGA services. Where possible, we want to continue to use the existing high spec Hyperfibre ONT in these situations. 

There are a few potential scenarios where a customer can continue to use an existing Hyperfibre ONT. For example:

  • A customer moves into a property with an intact Hyperfibre ONT and their preference is to choose an NGA plan.
  • A customer decides to move from an existing Hyperfibre plan to an NGA plan.
  • A customer at a property with an intact Hyperfibre ONT decides to upgrade from an NGA plan to a Hyperfibre plan.

We want to make it easy for you to ensure, where possible, they avoid unnecessary truck rolls and their associated costs in these types of situations. 

 

What’s happening?

We’ve introduced new NGA plan variants for you to select when ordering NGA services for a property with an intact Hyperfibre ONT. By using these HF variants, you’ll help to ensure there are no costs for you or your customers associated with an unnecessary ONT swap.

The HF variants are available for our most popular Bitstream 2 and Bitstream 3a plans as set out below:

Note:

  • From a technical and payment perspective, these plan variants are equivalent to their standard NGA plan counterparts. For example, monthly rentals are the same.
  • Hyperfibre ONTs are compatible with provision of these NGA services in Bridge or RGW mode.
  • ATA Voice is not supported by Hyperfibre ONTs. If customers at a property with an intact Hyperfibre ONT want to take voice only services, you will need to order RGW Voice or request a truck roll to replace the intact Hyperfibre ONT.

 

What’s the detail?

  • From 12 April 2021, you will notice new ‘Hyperfibre to NGA plan variants’ appear in our ordering tool (Chorus Portal) for our most popular BS2 & BS3 NGA plans.   
  • You need to select a HF variant plan where:
    • your customer requests a move from a Hyperfibre plan to an NGA plan; and
    • the request is for a property with an intact Hyperfibre ONT.

Important note: If you select a standard NGA plan in this scenario, a truck roll and ONT swap may occur which will incur a charge.

 

What’s next?

  • We will provide the updated B2B product catalogue file for EMMA and production.
  • If you want to start using the HF variants before 12 April, please let your account team know and we can work with you to have you onboarded from an earlier date.
  • An updated Hyperfibre Service Description (including these HF variants) will be tabled at the April Product Forum on the 8 April 2021 for industry endorsement as a precursor to CIP approval.
