Copper withdrawal update
Our activity to withdraw our copper network in specified fibre areas continues. This year will see the end of the new batches to withdraw copper services and, as communicated last year, we are focussing on the overdue withdrawal of services that remain from previous batches.
We are working through the services subject to prior copper withdrawal notices and confirming Code requirements have been met – when confirmed, we will issue a ‘final notice’ to end customers and advise Service Providers of the activity. These notices will include a confirmed date for disconnection which will generally be a short time frame to ensure there is no further extension to timeframes already exceeded. We will ensure we provide you advance notice of the connections that will receive the final notice.
‘At Risk’ and ‘Hold’ requests
We are receiving a lot of requests to not disconnect services at the end of a batch. Customers have been provided over six months’ notice and extending this time is known to introduce more confusion and provides lack of clarity for the customer.
Moving forward, we will require that if you request a service to not be disconnected at the end of a batch, you will need to provide a plan to migrate the service with dates and regular updates. If there is no plan, then the service may still be disconnected.
If you have an ‘At Risk’ customer, please advise early in the notice period what the risk is and what your plan to migrate is.
Copper withdrawal – SP website
We now have all remaining services either in a batch or planned for the next few months to be in a batch, therefore we have ceased publishing a list of all addresses impacted by copper withdrawal.
Any address that is included in a SFA (Chorus or other LFC), will be included in our copper withdrawal programme.
If you would like to check the status for a specific address, you can search the map on the Commerce Commission site - Commerce Commission - Telecommunications Connectivity Map.
