Earlier this year we invited you to consultation workshops on the introduction of a 2nd Generation XGS (Hyperfibre) ONT. Thank you to those of you that attended these sessions and helped inform our thinking and decisions. 

We have now selected an ONT and have closed out consultations. We have set up the in-flight project page on our SP site, where you will have access to up to date information on the developments in this project. 

Notice of Implementation of LFC Equipment Change 

On 20 April 2022, Chorus notified you of our intention to introduce a new 2nd Generation Hyperfibre ONT as our new standard ONT for the provision of new XGS connections. 

Chorus has now completed its consultation with service providers on the introduction of the 2nd Generation XGS ONT. This has included notification through the UFB Product Forum, a customer update via the SP website and service provider workshops held in June (that were attended by 14 and 3 representatives from the industry, respectively). 

Chorus now gives you notice under clause 24.7(c) of the UFB Services Agreement of the implementation of the 2nd Generation XGS ONT, which is an LFC Equipment Change. 

Systems Changes 

To be ready for the introduction of the 2nd Generation XGS ONT in 2023, the relevant systems changes will need to be completed, which includes introducing the ONT Type 210. The timeline for system changes will be notified in due course. 

Timing of implementation of LFC Equipment Change 

We previously provided an indicative timeframe of 1 April 2023 for the launch of the 2nd Generation XGS ONT. We now anticipate that the deployment of the 2nd Generation XGS ONT on a large scale will occur from September 2023, when development work is complete.
