It has been a long and winding road to get to this point, but we are now ready to announce the next generation of Chorus ONTs.

New ONT models and supplier

Following the RSP workshops and evaluation of the ONT RFI, Chorus selected Zyxel (pronounced Zeissel) as the preferred supplier for residential ONTs. 

The confirmed models are the two that we were working with in the RSP workshops:

5th Generation GPON ONT (Type 500) - Zyxel PX5301                              2nd Generation XGS ONT (Type 210) - Zyxel PM7507

Updated ONT release schedule

We advise that we are bringing forward the introduction of the new ONTs. We are expecting to start rollout of the 5th Gen ONT at the end of July 2025, with the 2nd Gen XGS ONT expected to rollout starting in October 2025. 

ONT Testing timeframes

Given the release being bought forward, we need to make the ONTs available for your testing sooner. As of now, we anticipate the 5th Gen ONT will be ready for testing by May 2025. The 2nd Gen XGS ONT will be slightly delayed, but we will make every effort to align its availability with the 5th Gen ONT. We will provide a confirmed timeline for this as soon as possible.
