We’ve heard from customers that there is a need for a terrestrial, highly accurate network clock synchronisation service. The service would deliver performance that meets the requirements for 5G cell-sites.

Existing network time solutions rely heavily on GPS and the risk of disruption or jamming is increasingly becoming a concern in the current global political context. GPS based solutions can also be challenging to deploy as each site requires a GPS receiver. Other solutions such as Network Time Protocol solutions (NTP) do not deliver the accuracy that is required by some use-cases.

As a net-neutral wholesaler, we believe that we are well placed to efficiently deliver a Precision Timing Protocol (PTP) service. Conceptually, we envision that this service will be an add-on to some of our specialist products, such as High Priority Access, Mobile Access or Business Premium.
