Consultation outcomes: New Points of Interconnect (POIs)
We recently consulted with you on adding three new Points of Interconnect (POIs).
The proposed three new POI sites are:
- Claudelands in Hamilton POI Area
- Gleniti in Timaru POI Area
- Spotswood in New Plymouth POI Area
The rationale for the new sites is to meet customer demand for our backhaul services (Claudelands) or because we have no alternative exchange functioning as a POI in the relevant POI area (Gleniti and Spotswood).
We also believe this brings additional benefits:
- more diversity options for backhaul around the country
- allows for more efficient routing of RSP traffic
- accommodates co-location growth
- enhances available Handover options
Please find the existing POI list for reference.
Consultation outcomes
Feedback from the consultation was positive. Those of you who responded told us that having a presence in these sites gave you opportunities for growth and reduced the need for ICABS / CXC. This was particularly true for Claudelands in Hamilton.
In addition, you expressed an interest in making some other sites POIs. We have no plans to expand our network in Mt Maunganui (MMN), Albany (ALY) or Papakura (PAK) as these sites are not part of our planned infrastructure upgrades and investment. The other requested sites of Paraparaumu (PRM) Levin (LVN) Timaru (TU) are already POI’s; please refer to existing POI list.
Next Steps
We are proceeding with developing these three POIs, with a goal of making these available by end of 2024. We are also intending to utilise the Commerce Commission change request process to have Claudelands, Spotswood and Gleniti recognised as Specified Points of Connection.
