Important copper withdrawal programme update

With the recent COVID-19 outbreak and the nation’s move to an alert level 4 lockdown Chorus has paused all new and inflight copper withdrawal trials. Given the circumstances, we think this is the best course of action for consumers at least until the nation has moved down to alert level 2.

Copper withdrawal trial batches

We are currently pausing all copper withdrawal trials until we move to at least alert level 2 nationwide. This means we won't be sending notices for inflight batches or any new batches. We plan to maintain this pause until the country is at least back at alert level 2 and then let you know when we plan to start back up again. We’ll update you if there are any changes to these plans as things play out.

Batch one final notices

Batch one final notices were delivered before we moved into lockdown. Despite being at the end stages of this batch, we have currently paused further steps, until we have all moved to at least alert level 2.

We will ensure that extra time is provided to any impacted customer to make sure they have sufficient time to move to fibre or an alternative technology.

Communicating with your customers

Since we cannot communicate to impacted customers directly, we’re asking for some assistance in communicating these key messages with your customers if they do contact you.

We will update the copper withdrawal pages on our consumer website to reflect the interim changes outlined above.
