VDSL band plan change

Informer 295: 5 November 2015

We are giving you notice of the updated UCLL Interference Management Plan that forms part of the UCLL Standard Terms Determination (STD). This update allows for a change to the VDSL band plan from 997 to 998ADE.

What's happening?

Guided by a Telecommunications Forum (TCF) working party, and as approved by the TCF board, a request was made to amend the UCLL Interference Management Plan to allow a VDSL band plan change from 997 to 998ADE.

On 28 October the Commerce Commission approved the amendment to the UCLL Interference Management Plan. In accordance with clause 47.15 of the UCLL STD Chorus is giving all Access Seekers (and the Commerce Commission) notice of the updated UCLL Interference Management Plan. The updated plan and the associated approval will be available in due course on the Commerce Commission’s website. The updated plan is effective from the date of this notice.

What's the detail?

The 997 VDSL band plan is now used only by New Zealand and is no longer widely supported by equipment providers. The rest of the world has adopted the 998ADE VDSL band plan.

To implement the band plan change we will be running a phased migration to update 7,000 of our ISAMs that have VDSL connections with a new software configuration. We expect to complete the migration before 18 December 2015.

A series of standard planned outage notifications will be sent to your NOC detailing the migration schedule. The migrations take place in a window between 1.00am and 6.00am. However, we expect them to be completed by 3.00am. Customers will experience a short outage that may last a up to 10 minutes. This will only affect VDSL subscribers served off the ISAM.

PLEASE NOTE:  this version of the Informer has been updated with a new migration time since the original.
