VDSL strategy consultation
Informer 365: 19 May 2016
We need your input to help shape the changes we’re making to Basic VDSL and feedback on a proposed change to the UBA wiring charge.
What's happening?
As the broadband landscape in New Zealand continues to evolve we also need to rethink how we position our products with consumers so that we stay relevant, while also giving them options to access better broadband.
Over the past few months we’ve been working on some proposed changes and improvements to Basic VDSL. Following on from the audio consultation regarding availability, we would now like to share the next round of proposals and ask for your feedback.
What's the detail?
As part of a wider plan for VDSL we’re proposing a couple of changes to Basic VDSL that are designed to sharpen the offering, including:
- Reviewing the amortisation of connection and wiring installation charges
- Removing availability rules from the Basic VDSL amended fact sheet.
At the same time we would like to consult with you on changing the Commerce Comission’s proposed time and materials charge for UBA wiring. We would like to move to a fixed charge of $82.21, based on one hour labour and material costs (reduces from the $115.00 that is charged today).
You can read more details on our proposed changes here.

If you have any feedback or comments regarding the proposal please email them to askportfolio@chorus.co.nz. Michelle Bond, Des Sokolich and Tim Pegler from the Portfolio team will be regularly checking this inbox throughout the day until 1 June 2016 and will be happy to answer any questions you have.
On 2 June 2016 we will send another Informer with a summary of your feedback and any changes to the proposed initiatives as a result.
