Changes to service descriptions for fibre technical standards

Informer 329: 8 March 2016

From 1 April we will be adding more detail to the fibre technical specifications in the service descriptions for fibre and other layer one components.

What's happening?

Crown Fibre Holdings (CFH) have approved the first round of changes to the technical specifications, so we will apply these broadened standards to all fibre testing from 1 April 2016.

The purpose of this change was to reduce the (pre-release) User Acceptance Testing (UAT) that CFH perform to commission the new UFB network, while not removing the pre-release testing undertaken by us.

We’re still waiting on their formal approval for the amended service descriptions (required prior to releasing the updated documents) which is subject to the approval of a number of matters unrelated to the change in the technical specifications.

What's the detail?

At the Product forum on 13 May 2015 the industry approved us adding more detail to the fibre technical specifications in the service descriptions for fibre and other layer one components.

Further inclusion of the technical specifications in the service descriptions will make them transparent for you. The change also introduces alignment between the pre-release testing and the testing of working circuits for the provisioning or assure processes. CFH approval of the amended service descriptions, required prior to release of the updated versions of all service descriptions, is dependent on approval of some matters unrelated to the change in technical specifications referred to above.

As we have CFH’s approval to change the testing regime to include the broadened standards, from 1 April 2016 we will start applying the broader standards to all a Layer 1 network tests requested at time of provisioning and assure. At that time CFH will also amend its pre-acceptance UAT testing.

You can find a copy of the new fibre technical specifications on our public website.
