New ONTs for NGA connections
From May new ONTs will be installed at your customers’ premises.
What's happening?
We are starting to deploy new ONTs when completing NGA new connections. The ONT includes a QR code that stores information regarding the ONT that can be view on a website.
What's the detail?
The inclusion of the QR code will allow us to store information regarding the ONT. When accessed via a mobile phone app the QR code will simply go to a web page which provides simple diagnostics about the function of the ONT.
Over time, Chorus will develop installation and assure processes based on this QR code. There a two changes to the new ONT - inclusion of the QR code on the top right hand corner and he power supply has changed from a brick to a plug pack removing the need to mount the power pack on the wall.
As advised at the UFB Product Forum, the new ONT is part of a program that is undertaking lifecycle upgrades to the network software and introducing new ONT and OLT hardware for growth. These changes should have no impact on services, but we invite you to test your equipment against the new hardware and software, at our labs. Some of the software upgrades will cause a short services outages but these will be undertaken during outage windows and you will receive an outage notification prior to the upgrade.
